Sorry this one is a bit wordy again. I had to make a crazy excuse for how the fish can stay out of the water…using an actual organ that allows them to breath oxygen works for me. I didn’t want to have the fish only constricted to their tank environment. In real life, thats fine with me, I’d rather them stay in their tanks. But this is a comic so I wanted to be able to do more with them. Giving them superpowers is a goofy idea, but hey, I like superheroes. And its and excuse to get them out of the tank for a few strips XP
Betta fish do actually breathe air. My fishy babies love swimming up to the surface so they can take a gulp of air. The organ Neptune is talking about (the labyrinth) is what allows them to breathe atmospheric air at the waters surface. While a betta fish does breathe air, please don’t leave them out of the tank!! They’re fish, they like to swim! They don’t like laying on the ground and slowly dying due to lack of water. I have read stories of bettas jumping out of their tanks and surviving outside of water for a while, but I wouldn’t recommend testing this.
